Privacy
This is a small game made by one person. There is no account system, no tracking and no advertising in any part of it — so this page is short, and all of it is specific.
The game collects nothing. It never talks to the internet. Your save is a file on your own computer and it stays there.
The website collects nothing either, apart from what you deliberately type into the contact form. No cookies, no analytics, no tracking pixels, nothing stored in your browser.
PeeCee Critters is made by John Torbet, trading as MutantToes Studios, a sole developer based in South Africa. For the purposes of the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) that makes me the responsible party for anything described here, and the contact form is how you reach me.
Some of the people testing the game are in the United Kingdom, and the UK GDPR covers them wherever I happen to be sitting. Rather than work out which law covers which person, everyone gets the same rights: the list further down is honoured for anybody who asks, whichever country they are in.
The game does not connect to the internet, at all, for any reason. There is no account to create, nothing to sign in to, no telemetry, no crash reporter and no update check.
Your save is a small text file in your own AppData folder
(%APPDATA%\com.pccritters.game). It holds your critters, your
steps and your progress. It is never uploaded anywhere and I cannot see it
unless you choose to send it to me.
The site is static files served by Netlify. Like every web server in existence, Netlify records the requests it answers — your IP address, the page, the time, your browser's user-agent string — and uses them to serve the site and to keep it from being abused. I do not have any analytics product layered on top of that, so those logs are the whole of it.
The pages load two typefaces from Google Fonts. That is a request to Google's servers, which means Google sees your IP address and browser when the fonts are fetched.
The home page and How to play show the trailers from YouTube, in YouTube's privacy-enhanced player (youtube-nocookie.com). The player is fetched from Google's servers when it scrolls into view, so Google sees your IP address and browser then; YouTube says it sets no cookies unless you press play. Google Fonts and YouTube are the only outbound requests any page here makes to anyone other than Netlify.
The contact page is the one place on this site that takes information from you, and it takes only the four things on the form:
There is also a hidden field that people never see. Automated spam fills it in and real submissions leave it empty, which is how the obvious junk is dropped before it reaches me.
Submissions are handled by Netlify Forms and land in a private inbox that only I can open. Netlify is an American company, so your message is stored on servers outside South Africa. Nothing you send is published, and nothing is passed to anyone else, sold, or used to market anything to you. I use it to fix what you reported and to write back if you left an address — that is the entire purpose, and there is no mailing list to end up on.
I keep reports for as long as they are useful for fixing the thing they describe, and delete them when they are not. If you want yours gone sooner, ask and it goes.
If you email me a save file or a screenshot after that first exchange, it contains only what you put in it — a save is your game progress and nothing about you.
About anything you have sent me, you can ask for:
Use the contact form. There is no process and no ticket number; it is one person reading, and you will hear back. If you think I have handled something badly you can also complain to a regulator without asking me first: in South Africa, the Information Regulator; in the United Kingdom, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO); in the EU, your national data protection authority.
The game is suitable for any age and collects nothing from anybody. I would rather children did not use the contact form without a parent knowing, simply because it can carry an email address — but there is nothing on this site aimed at getting information out of a child.
If the site ever gains something that collects more than this does — analytics, a Steam widget, a newsletter, anything at all — this page gets updated in the same change, not afterwards. The date below is when it was last true.
